Description
Welcome.WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT: Carmelita Simplicio was born in 1940 and was a master silversmith, related to Dan Simplicio, married to his brother, she used one of his leaf designs in her work, particularly in this beautiful pin and pendant which is a pinwheel type design made of the leaves, framing a beautiful rich natural blue turquoise stone and set with a wonderful hand made scalloped bezel. It is properly signed by her and also for sterling silver and is one of her prototypical designs. It appears in the book Zuni The Art and the People, volume 2 a book which is out of print, a page of which I include in the pictures above. Also included in the pictures are some of another pin in coral which is available separately. There's something quite perfect about the aesthetics of this piece and it's a collectible work of art.
CONDITION: excellent vintage, wearable and collectible. There is a very small amount of shallow matrix loss in the beautifulhgh grade turquoise stone.
MEASUREMENTS:
• 1-3/8" diameter with nice depth and dimensionality
• 10grams
• signed with Carmelita Simplicio's hallmark and also for sterling silver .925 metal content
• both a pin and a pendant
SUMMARY: Carmelita Simplicio was one of the great Zuni silversmiths whose expertise is apparent in this wonderful pin and pendant. It has a vibrant turquoise stone, probably Morenci mine, and is framed with one of the more famous Simplicio family leaves in a pinwheel design. A wonderful variation on the circle pin with the versatility of being also a pendant!

International buyers pay actual shipping cost if I’m shipping myself rather than using eBay’s Global Shipping service, and International buyers are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. It's less expensive and is also tracked. First Class International is no longer offered by the US Postal Service. Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.
