Description
This is an original Geha fountain pen from Germany. Every person who likes German pens should have one of these. The name "Geha" was a contraction of Gebruder-Hartmann from Hanover. The firm sold stationery and office supplies for many years until it began making pens in 1950. Their pens were very popular with German students. Ultimately the company was bought by Pelikan around 1990.
One unusual feature of this pen is the "reserve tank." The button shown on the bottom of the nib is pushed with the lip of the cap, and it releases extra ink so you don't run dry in the middle of a sentence.
This pen has not been used, but it has been inked and should be cleaned thoroughly before use. Many Germany companies installed an ink cartridge in new pens, so you could write with them immediately upon purchase. That's why this pen has an empty ink cartridge inside; the ink cartridge was installed in the pen, but it evaporated over the years. You can use it by refilling it with a syringe. To clean the ink out, soak the section (the part with the nib) in a solution of 10 percent window cleaner and 90 percent cool water. Then rinse it under running water.
Other than the dried ink residue, this pen is in excellent condition, with what appears to be a MEDIUM steel nib.
