MLB Authenticated - Yoan Moncada DOUBLE to Nicholas Castellanos and Jose Abreu vs Hoffman Game-Used Baseball. Shipped USPS Priority. On May 4, 2021, the Chicago White Sox visited the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Dylan Cease started for the White Sox, while Jeff Hoffman went for the Reds. In the top of the third, Yoan Moncada led off. HOFFMAN HELD THIS BALL IN HIS HAND!! He threw a 92 mph four-seamer for a called strike. (Yes, that means Tucker Barnhart also touched this ball!!) Hoffman came back with fastball for a ball. He then threw a 76.8 mph curveball, and MONCADA RIPPED THIS BALL 107 MPH TO THE FENCE IN RF WHERE NICHOLAS CASTELLANOS GRABBED IT AND THREW TO JONATHAN INDIA BUT NOT BEFORE MONCADA LEGGED OUT A LEAD-OFF DOUBLE. (The replay also shows that India tossed the ball to Eugenio Suarez, who was on 2B covering Moncada.) Hoffman got this ball back. Jose Abreu walked to the plate. Hoffman threw an 80.6 mph slider for a ball. He followed that with another slider for a ball. (Baseball Reference indicates that the second pitch to Abreu was a wild pitch that allowed Moncada to move to 3B, but this ball is not MLB Authenticated for the wild pitch.) This ball was then retired. Abreu eventually struck out. Adam Eaton was HBP. Moncada the. Scored on an Andrew Vaughn sac fly. Yasmani Grandal ended the half inning by flying out to Castellanos. The White Sox went on to win 9-0 behind hits by Tim Anderson, Nick Madrigal, Moncada, Abreu, Leury Garcia, and Cease (yes, the pitcher had three hits!!). This ball is MLB Authenticated for all five pitches from Hoffman to Moncada and Abreu, including Moncada’s double to Castellanos. Please note that this ball does not come with a case. Thank you for purchasing!!
