Oh, what a life this ball had. Eleven pitches. Three batters. And Cheslor Cuthbert’s 46th career double. But I’m getting ahead of myself. On July 18, 2019, the Chicago White Sox visited the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Ross Detwiler started for the White Sox, while Brad Keller went for the Royals. The White Sox scored two runs to start the game off singles by Leury Garcia and Yoan Moncada, followed by an error on Jose Abreu’s ground ball and a Wellington Castillo fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the first, Whit Merrifield led off. DETWILER HELD THIS BALL IN HIS HAND!! He threw an 89.3 mph four-seamer for a ball. He came back with a cutter, and MERRIFIELD DROVE THIS BALL TO RYAN CORDELL IN RF FOR A FLY OUT!! Detwiler got this ball back. Cheslor Cuthbert came to bat. Detwiler threw a four-seamer for a called strike. He followed that with a changeup and two sinkers, all for balls. With the count 3-1, Detwiler threw a sinker, and CUTHBERT SMACKED THIS BALL TO LEURY GARCÍA FOR A LINE DRIVE DOUBLE!! It was CUTHBERT’S 7th DOUBLE OF THE 2019 SEASON AND 46th CAREER DOUBLE. But wait, there’s more! Detwiler got this ball back. (I’m not sure who cut off the ball before it got to Detwiler.) Hunter Dozier came to bat. Detwiler threw Dozier a sinker for a called strike. He followed that with a slider for a ball. Detwiler then threw Dozier a changeup for another called strike. Finally, he threw a curveball with this ball into the dirt, and this ball was finally retired. The ball is MLB Authenticated for all 11 pitches to Merrifield, Cuthbert, and Dozier, including Cuthbert‘a double and Merrifield’s fly out. The Royals went on to win the game 6-5 behind hits by Cuthbert (obviously), Dozier, Jorge Soler, Humberto Arteaga, Bubba Starling, Cam Gallagher, and Billy Hamilton. Thank you for purchasing!!
