Yusei Kikuchi started for the Mariners, and Antonio Senzatela started for the Rockies. In the bottom of the second, with the score 0-0, Daniel Vogelbach led off with a ground out to Nolan Arenado. Tim Lopes struck out. Dee Gordon (now Dee Strange-Gordon, in honor of his mom!) reached on an error and ended up on second. Mallex Smith came to the plate. After the count went to 1-1, Senzatela HELD THIS BALL IN HIS HAND!! He threw a four-seam fastball. Smith SMACKED THIS BALL TO GARRETT HAMPSON IN LF FOR A SINGLE, SCORING STRANGE-GORDON FOR THE MARINERS’ FIRST RUN!! The Mariners, however, ended up losing the game 8-4, despite hits from Kyle Lewis, Kyle Seager, Aaron Nola, Lopes, Strange-Gordon, and of course, Smith.
