Description
Up for auction is a PAIR of game-used baseballs that were thrown for STRIKEOUTS by superstar and future 1st ballot Hall of Fame pitcher, Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals in a May 14, 2021 game in Arizona against the Diamondbacks. Details of the baseballs are as follows:1) Bottom of 1st inning: Strikeout of D-Backs' Pavin Smith. CAREER STRIKEOUT #2846.
The ball stayed in play for four pitches to the next batter after the strikeout. (Ball is pictured on left in the auction photo).
2) Bottom of 3rd inning: Strikeout of D-Backs' Riley Smith. CAREER STRIKEOUT #2849.
The ball stayed in play for three pitches to the next batter after the strikeout. (Ball is pictured on the right in the auction photo).
The baseballs were then taken out of play and authenticated by Major League Baseball under its authentication program designed to preserve memorable artifacts from the game. An authenticator placed a numbered, tamper-proof Major League Baseball authentication hologram on the baseball. The details of the baseballs and their game use are logged on the MLB authentication website. For security purposes, the holograms have been blurred in the auction photo but please see the screen capture from the MLB authentication program website also attached to view the details.
Max Scherzer is one of the greatest pitchers to ever play the game. An 8-time All-Star, 3-time Cy Young Award winner, World Series Champion, owner of 2 No-Hitters and countless other MLB records with the Nationals, Scherzer will be a first ballot Hall of Famer after he retires. This is a wonderful piece of memorabilia that will only appreciate in value with time.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks and Good Luck!
