    Description

Up for bids is an impressive Nights of Pythias medal that has the date 1884 on the backside. The medal appears to have been worn by an Ed. Anglim. Brief Internet research seemed to indicate that he was from Detroit, Michigan, and appears to have been the Proprietor of "The Pabst" at 9 Cadillac Square in Detroit (not sure what "The Pabst" was....perhaps a saloon or hotel but not sure???). The piece is stamped "Coin" on the backside which I assume means that the triangle portion of the piece is made of coin silver with the shield made of brass. There also appears to be a maker's mark on the backside at the bottom of the triangle. There is also engraving at the top of the backside of the triangle which looks to be "From D.C. to E.A." ....I would guess that there was a Nights of Pythias convention in Washington D.C. in 1884 and this medal may have been given out to those who attended....but again that is just a guess. It measures approximately 4 inches in length and has a width of 3 inches. Total weight for the medal is 1.9 ounces. Please see the photographs to determine exactly what you will receive.
